1) A editora me pediu que escrevesse no máximo 250 palavras;
2) O tema tinha que envolver Cambridge;
3) Haverá uma sequência entre as publicações, por isso o de hoje começa lá nos "primórdios";
4) Eles sempre serão uma mistura de artigo com crônica, dissertação e biografia (se é que isso é possivel!).
Agora...a matéria publicada hoje, dia 27/01/2011:
The first time I heard the word Cambridge was in 1996. I was 21 then. I had just given up my university course and was uncertain about my future career.
So, I happened to meet a couple, Lena who was Brazilian and Bert who was Dutch, who had decided to open their own business in Brazil: an English school. They proved to be very nice people and our friendship started. I had always been an English language enthusiast despite the fact that until that moment I could not say a single word in it. At that time Bert told me: “Why don´t you study English with us? You can get Cambridge ESOL Certificates and be an English teacher in the future!”
After a conversation of about an hour I was totally convinced of my career: I would get all the Main Suite Cambridge Certificates and become an English Teacher. Two years after that I got my First Certificate in English (FCE) and could start teaching some basic stuff to some basic students.
To make a long story short: I have been teaching English in Brazil since then, I was awarded Certificate of Proficiency in English in 2007 and in December 2010 I had the most expected trip of my life: I visited Cambridge! It was amazing! It is certainly one of the "coziest" towns in the world!
On December 23rd in the afternoon I was in Cambridge Railway Station and I received a newspaper (free of charge): Cambridge First. The rest…well…the rest is history!
